How to make Homemade Ranch Dressing

I love, love, love homemade dressings.  They taste so good, the ingredients can be natural,  AND it sounds impressive to say you made it from scratch.  (Really, it isn’t hard to make them–you just need to be able to dump and stir.  But, I’ll keep it a secret for you so your friends and family can still be impressed!)

Ranch Dressing    (click here to print)

adapted from here

1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup buttermilk (see note below, vinegar and regular milk)
1/2 teaspoon chives (optional, if you have it)
1/2 teaspoon parsley
1/2 teaspoon dill
1/4 heaping teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 heaping teaspoon onion powder
3/4 teaspoon sea salt (table salt is fine)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1. If you don’t have buttermilk (I never do) you can make it:  In a 1/2 measuring cup pour 1 1/2 teaspoons vinegar.  Next, add milk to fill to top.  Let sit while you are getting the other ingredients together.

2.  In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise and dried seasonings.  Add buttermilk and whisk together.

3.  Refrigerate for about 30 minutes before serving (if possible).

**To save time, double or quadruple the mix and keep in a labeled plastic bag or sealed container.  At the time you want to make it: 1.  Make buttermilk 2.  mix mayonnaise with 3 1/4 dry ranch mix (if used as written) 3. add buttermilk to mixture and whisk.  4.  refrigerate

You will be so impressed with yourself and your family will love it!  What do you think?  Do you have other homemade dressings you make?  I’ll be adding more recipes for others soon.
