Want to Start Couponing? Learning the Rules of the Store. part 2

Ok, so you started following blogs, have your newspaper, and a system to file coupons.  (If you missed part 1, click HERE.)  Now you are excited to actually see these saving pour in!

Next, you need to decide which store you are going to try out.  Each store has its own rules and coupon policies.   There is a reason people call it playing the “drugstore game” because it is a little bit of a game to play to get the savings.  Never fear!  There are some amazing ladies who tell it how its done in blogs.  Some ladies even have entire blogs devoted to a particular store.

Grab some tea and sit down to learn the ropes!  Click on these links and read about the rules and policies of each store.  Then choose which one you want to start with.  My suggestion is to start with one and learn that one before you move on.

Want to Start Couponing? No Extreme Couponing Skills Needed. part 1

Have any questions about getting started?  Have you found some other sites with good tips for beginners?  I’d love to include them.

The BEST Egg Bake Ever

Sorry for my absence at the blog lately!  I have been working, working, working on my Etsy store.  I am trying to get more in there before another blogger hosts a giveaway for the store  on Friday.  More details to come on that!

Egg bakes are soo wonderful.  They are really easy to make, can be done ahead of time, are tasty, and filling!  Plus, they are easy to make to serve guests.  I put mine together the night before I am going to make it and then all I have to do in the morning is bake it.  After church on Sundays, we get home right at lunchtime.  I like to bake the egg bake right away on Sunday morning when I get up and then we just heat it up when we get home.  It makes happy kids AND a happy mommy to not have to make food and hear grouchy children at the same time!

We ate ours up so quickly that I didn’t get any pictures of the finished egg bake!

Want to Start Couponing? No Extreme Couponing Skills Needed. part 1

I am far from an extreme couponer.  TLC is not calling my name to be on their show.  I do use some coupons and get some deals.  I think of couponing as more of a game and that makes it fun.  My dear husband is kind and will sit and listen to my exciting shopping trips and all the money I saved!

If you don’t know much about couponing it can seem overwhelming, I agree.  I want to help simplify it for you and point you to a few amazing blogs that do a great job simplifying the confusing world of coupons!

Here are some baby steps to help you dip your toe into the world of couponing.

Step#1:

Follow Some Blogs to Show you the Deals

You can choose the method that you use to follow the blogs: Twitter, Facebook, RSS, or email.  I have been following blogs for many years now and can tell you there are some awesome ones out there.  The bloggers will share the deals for the week with the match-ups for the coupons you will need.  The coupons can be ones you print out, get from the newspaper, or get from the store.

Blogs I Recommend:

1.  Money Saving Mom

2.  Moms By Heart

3.  A Thrifty Mom

4.  Commons Sense with Money

Along with deals for the week, these sites have tips on how to coupon at each store (Walgreens, CVS, Target, etc) and they also share lots of great random deals.  For example, I read from a blog that Toms of Maine was giving away free children’s toothpaste samples and signed up.

Step#2

Subscribe to the Sunday Newspaper

If you live in a small town, this probably means you need to subscribe to the newspaper in the city nearest you.  Check your mailbox for specials on subscriptions.  I get my paper for $1 a week and that includes a Wednesday and a Sunday paper.  This will be your go-to place to get the coupons you need.  Some people get multiple copies of the newspaper.  But, we are starting small here, so just start off with one.

Step#3

Find a System for Filing Coupons

Don’t be nervous!  This one may take some time to find out what style works best for you.  I have tried a couple of different systems and for this season in my life, I put the date on the front cover of each insert.  Then, I file each insert (whole) in its own plastic sleeve in a binder in chronological order.  This works well if you are only using coupons to stock up on the really good deals of the week.

Another method is to cut apart all of your coupon inserts for the week and file each coupon under its specific heading in chronological order.  This works well if you are going to take all of your coupons with you while shopping to pop out that coupon on the clearance shampoo.  You will get a better savings out of this method, but it is time consuming.  (Your file doesn’t have to be as large as the one in the picture.)

If you coupon, what are some tips you would give to a newbie?  If you are new to the idea of couponing what questions do you have?

The tutu is filled with an array of beautiful soft pinks, hot pinks, oranges and white and all of the colors come together extremely well!! And a pretty satin bow tops off the tutu. A practical element of this tutu is the waistband. It is wrapped in a soft, satin ribbon for an added layer of comfort. It’s details like that one that are very important for any busy mom on the go and that I sincerely appreciate!

Giveaway from Busy Mom on the Go!

This is a guest post from Busy Mom on the Go!  Emily

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

I decided from the very beginning of planning for Emily’s birthday party that I wanted a cupcake theme. So, it is of little surprise that she will be wearing a cupcake shirt at her party! Amber at Kate Grace Rose makes amazing hand-sewn onesies with a cupcake design on the front. I tried to take a picture from an angle so you can see the cupcake design is not an iron on. She makes the base of the cupcake out of a high quality, decorative piece of fabric and then in a very cool way she frays solid colored fabric and layers it on the shirt in such a way that makes that layer look like frosting! Additionally, the “frosting” effect is visually pleasing because it creates a 3-D effect that is far more noticeable than a basic iron on.

Amber is offering Busy Mom on the Go readers with a special discount code so you can start shopping today for your little girl! Use code: busymoms to save 15% off!!! Her store includes tutus, birthday outfits, decorative onesies, hair accessories, diaper straps and much more! Check out Kate Grace Rose today!

Do you like this onesie? Would like this same one for your daughter? Amber has generously offered the onesie pictured above from her store for one lucky winner! Starting today through 5/3 at 11:59 EST you can enter using the Rafflecopter form below. This giveaway is for the cupcake onesie pictured above. All entrants must be 18+ to enter, open to US residents only.

This is a guest post from Busy Mom on the Go!  After today, there is only one more giveaway to go!  Emily

Are you having fun at the Birthday Bash Party Event yet? Today, I am reviewing Funny Honey Frames! The name alone tells you there is something special about these frames! I marveled at the charming details with the one-of-a-kind, personalized photo mattes that Andrea creates at Funny Honey Frames. I had to look at the customized matte about 3 times before I actually saw all of the details that she put into the special one created for Emily.

With Funny Honey Frames you let Andrea know what color scheme you’re interested in, the name of the person that the frame should be customized for (in this case Emily) and then the font type for the name. And then Funny Honey Frames will handle the rest! As a busy mom on the go (BMotG) I enjoy the attention to detail in these frames. I have never seen anything like it. Each matte is personalized out of high quality cardstock and then decorated according to your needs.

The picture below is the one that Andrea created for Emily’s 1st Birthday party! I love the girly font and the sparkly paper backing her name, along with the cupcake below the 4×6 photo. These are all details that coordinate very well together. This matte fits into any 8×10 frame perfectly. However, I recommend buying the complete set through Funny Honey Fames for two reasons. First, if you’re busy like me and don’t have a spare 8×10 photo frame then adding that to the list of errands is silly when Funny Honey Frames offers matching white frames for any of their mattes. Second, the price is right! Funny Honey Frames offers their personalized photo mattes and matching frames at an affordable price delivered right to your door. And for BMotG readers you can get 10% off your order using code: BUSYMOM

And now for the giveaway!! Do you want to win one of these amazing personalized photo mattes? Starting today through 5/2 at 11:59 EST you can enter using the Rafflecopter form below. This giveaway is for 1 photo matte with the option to purchase the matching photo frame. Must be 18+ to enter, open to US residents only.

Busy Mom on the Go Giveaway!

(This is a guest post from Busy Mom on the Go!)

I was very excited when I saw the creative hats at My Kayla Rose’s Etsy Boutique. Bonnie’s designs are so fun and playful that I really wanted to incorporate one of them into Emily’s birthday party! I chose the zebra print with the hot pink feather boa detail around the base and on the top. I think this hat is a wonderfully girly design that brings a small amount of flashiness to the party.

So far, Emily has been exceptionally interested in the hat, just not on her head! She had so much fun playing the game of pulling the hat off of her head that I could not help, but snap pictures in between laughing at how much fun she was having!! I can just imagine when she gets older and wants to play dress-up how much fun she will have with this hat added to her dress-up collection.

Bonnie at My Kayla Rose offers a nice variety of hats for any celebration including Mini Mouse hats too (adorable!). The material she used to make the zebra hat for Emily is a very soft fabric and she tied a pretty pink ribbon, that if Emily’s willing, I could tie into a pretty bow to keep the hat in place. And for Busy Mom on the Go readers Bonnie has generously offered a 10% off coupon code to her store using code: Kayla.
